Our Story

About me

My name is Natalie and I’m the founder of Natalie’s Healthy Kitchen.

I’m a big foodie and a clinical dietitian with an interest in sustainability. I believe that both our planet and our bodies benefit from more plant-based food. That’s why I offer healthy and mostly vegetarian dishes.

I also believe that the food we eat has to be tasty to be sustainable, so I focus a lot on the flavors. The fibers, vitamins, and minerals you get by ordering and cooking my food are just a bonus.

Why I started Natalie’s Healthy Kitchen

When I lived in Sweden, I loved using meal kit services. They helped me to simplify my life since I didn’t have to do my own grocery shopping and meal planning. It was also so much fun to try new dishes that I wouldn’t have thought of cooking myself.

I moved to Portugal in 2017 to live a simpler life, close to the sea and eventually I started my own family here. When the pandemic forced us into lockdown and we had to eat more at home I really missed those meal kits delivered to my doorstep.

That’s when I decided to start my own version of the concept, with my own personal twist.

I believe in adding more healthy food like vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds to our diets instead of eliminating food groups so that we can find a way to eat that works long term. I want to make people realise that healthy food can be easy to cook and delicious. Simply food that is good for our health and planet.

I hope my bags can help your daily logistics and get you inspired to cook different kinds of food with plenty of greens!

My interest in food started early

I grew up in a family with three siblings. My parents always had a food interest and cooked a lot of delicious food for us and our friends.

There was always a pot on the stove with (by then) exotic ingredients like turmeric and spice mixes from all over the world. They never made different, typical “kid food” for us, and I remember my dad pointing at his plate and saying that it’s important to eat food with all kinds of colors.

I think that’s where I first got my interest in healthy food, and it is those seeds that later made me decide to study and become a dietitian.

A holistic approach to food

With my background as a dietitian, I’ve met a lot of patients from all stages of life and backgrounds. It has given me a broad knowledge of food and a more holistic approach. I use my dietitian knowledge when planning the recipes to make sure they’re well composed with protein, fat, and carbs but also plenty of fibers and nutrients.

I use different kinds of vegetables, nuts, and grains to make them versatile and filling, so you don’t have to worry about not getting full. As a fact, plenty of my customers have said that the dishes are great even for big meat lovers.

My hope is that you will finish eating and feel happy and satisfied. You will also know that you’ve done something good for your body and our planet.

Natalie’s Healthy Kitchen & Sustainability

At Natalie’s Healthy Kitchen, our recipes are predominantly vegetarian and crafted with seasonal ingredients to facilitate the use of local and organic produce when available. We prioritize reducing plastic waste by selecting ingredients with minimal or no packaging.

Additionally, we strive to minimize food waste by utilizing entire ingredients and incorporating them into multiple recipes. These practices contribute to both personal well-being and environmental sustainability.

By choosing Natalie’s Healthy Kitchen, you can avoid trips to the grocery store, thereby reducing car usage and its associated carbon footprint. We are committed to sustainability by using our own bags and purchasing in bulk to further decrease plastic consumption.

Most of our dishes feature seasonal, vegetarian ingredients, which require fewer resources for production and transport. We also ensure that any remaining materials from shopping and delivery are recycled. Our ingredients are delivered in reusable bags, which we encourage you to return for continued use.

Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our environment while enjoying delicious, health-conscious meals!

Inspiration from all over the world

I love food from all over the world, so when I plan the recipes, I make sure you get a taste of all kinds of different cuisines.

My personal favorites are Asian, and Italian and everything served in a piece of bread like a tortilla or pita. And a lot of my customers agree, the most liked dishes are fish (or halloumi) taco with mango salsa and guacamole, shakshuka and lemon risoni with crispy feta cheese and chickpeas. So get ready for a taste explosion!

"The recipes in Natalie’s Healthy Kitchen are simple, fast, varied and healthy. I had my kids eating veggies they never tried before. And I must add that with some meals, we still had some leftovers for the next day. So convenient. Cannot recommend enough!”
